Predators

Went to go see Predators today and was surprised how well it was. Take 8 highly trained mercenaries and throw them on a planet with 3 Predators and you end up with an awesome concept. The mercenaries don’t know each other and don’t remember how they got there. One merc seem to understand better at what is going on then the others, but he still doesn’t know what the Predators are. While walking in the jungle they come to a Predators campsite and get a close face-up with a Predator that is bound to a tree. Being attacked they run and come across a guy that has been on the planet for 7 to 10 season. They end up getting hunted down by the Predators. The main character makes it back to the camp and releases the one Predator that was tied up. There is a really cool Predator on Predator fight then the main characters turn with them. Definitely a must see movie.

Secret Avengers #1 & Avengers #2 Review

Secret Avengers #1 – Steve Rogers puts together a special ops team made up of: Black Widow, Valkyrie, Nova, War Machine, Ant-Man, Moon Knight & Beast. The book start with Black Widow & Valkyrie are undercover to steal an artifact. The artifact we find out is from Mars. Steve Rogers sends Nova to check it out and loses communication and assembles the team to go to Mars. The book ends with The Shadow Council stealing the artifact from the Secret Avengers while they are on their way to Mars.

Avengers #2 – The team goes to get Marvel Boy to build them a time machine so they can go into the future to stop their kids from ending the time stream. After Marvel Boy builds the time machine Wonder Man attacks and destroys it. Wonder Man doesn’t think the Avengers are needed. The Four Horsemen Of Apocalypse show up on the last page of the book.

MNCBA SpringCon 2010 Wrap up Report!

So the first Springcon has come and gone and Microcon is no more (unless they change Fallcon’s name to Microcon since it is now a one day show!) and let me tell you it was a great show.

When I got to the con on Saturday morning I found my table with the help of the wonderful volunteer staff I was sitting with my good friends Josh Brown and President Nelson to the left of me and to the right was Evan “DOC” Shaner and the guys from Johnny Recon! I don’t think that anything will ever top the year that I found myself sitting right next to Don Rosa at Fallcon, but sitting next to these guys takes a strong second place!
So before I even unpack my bags and set up my table I went over and said Hi to Mitch Gerads and Scott Dillon. I wanted to pick up a copy of Johnny Recon #2. I really didn’t need to buy a copy of JR#2, I have a special edition coming from having taken part in their Kickstarter fund drive, but I didn’t want to wait to read! Plus since Doc Shaner and Kyle Latino where there I was able to get it signed by all the people who had worked on it! Not to mention that I want to keep supporting these guys as much as I can! There comic is great, it has that fun feel that I think the industry in general has lost.
Having got that out of the way I got myself back to my table and started getting set up for the day I still have no finished comic to sell so It was mostly just sketchcards, drawings in my portfolio and my sketchbook.
Then it was time to wait…
I think the set-up time in the mornings are my favorite time to be there. Once you are all set for the day there is time to wonder around and talk to the other artist from the area. I was able to see and chat a little with Grant Gould, Jessica Hickman, Michael May and Alex Ness before the day started. I never did make it back to Jessica’s table to pick up her sketchbook, guess that I will have to order it from the internet…
I managed to pick up three new sketches for my Duck collection Both Mitch Gerad and Scott Gallatin did a DarkWing Duck for me and Brent Schoonover did me a Duck Dodgers.
I sold a number of sketchcards and artwork to some great people. Their was one couple in particular who were repeat customers. They picked up a couple pages of uncut sketch cards this time after having bought my 88 Faces from me at Fallcon last year. I didn’t think to get their names, but they did take my contact info so that they could have first chance to buy the piece that they saw me working on at my table!

I managed to slip away for awhile to visit Scott Gallatin at his table and Matt Kaufenberg at his. I give Matt’s art a lot of credit for reminding me it is ok to try to make the art fun and has played a major part in me swinging my drawing style back to the “double circle style” I started with! Joe Combs swung by our table on Sunday so I managed to talk to almost everyone that I wanted to this weekend. The one exception being Jim Keefe from the Flash Gordon comics. Jim is a great guy and a real trip to talk to for anyone who is into the old school heroes and style. I just never managed to track down his table.

For the most part I hung out at my table talking to Bill Josh Brown and President Nelson and being a geek… I started a number of drawings for various people and need to get them finished up this week. Josh is a great writer and was selling some of the comics htat he has had stories appear in as well as writing custom Haiku’s for a quarter at one point even offering free quarters with the purchase of a Haiku. Prez of course was a very popular fellow with his pin up prints of the various super-heroines and way low pieced commission pieces!

One the coolest things of the weekend though was getting to sit and watch as Doc Shaner drew sketch cards and commissions for people. I found myself seeing him doing amazing ink work and creating full images from just some very simple rough line sketches. It was a blast getting to spend time getting to know Evan and Carla and look forward to seeing them at more conventions in the future. Carla was amazing and I got a kick out of watching the way she interacted with the geeks that came up to Evan’s table. She did a great job in engaging the fans!
And I can not forget to mention how great it was to finally meet blogger Sharyn Morrow in person with her son and to have Michael Waite and his son stop by for a visit!
All right… I know I am forgetting to mention someone or something that happened but it is time to wrap it up….

Oh Jeff Parker! Almost forgot about him… Have to say that he is one of the friendliest pros that I have ever met and that it was a trip meeting him!

It’s been awhile

Have been up to much. Charles, Abby & I went to Free Comic Book Day at The Source Comics & Games in St. Paul. Video Game wise I have been playing the shit out of Fat Princess demo and Ghostbusters. Fat Princess is a game of capture the flag. Ghostbusters is basically the third movie. Movies I have watched have been The Alphabet Killer, Planet Hulk, Spaced Above & Beyond, Whiteout & Whip It(review later). That is all I have for now, make sure that you try to make it out to SpringCon May 15 & 16 at the State Fairgrounds – Grandstands.

Champions Online

From the creators of City of Heroes now comes Champions. I started playing the game 3 days ago and haven’t really stopped playing it. Create your own hero and play in an open world community with others playing. I have created two heroes so far, one a magician name Zossa and the other Skullface. The game to me has some bugs to it like the fact that the enemies are stronger and in greater numbers then the heroes. I like to play alone and I keep running into areas that are hard to pass without teammates. Overall I will give the game 4 stars out of 5.

I just finished watching the first season and am up in the air on if I like it or not. The things I don’t like about the series was the chooses of actors. I didn’t think Stephen Moyer was the right choose for the vampire. I also didn’t like Anna Paquin as Sookie, maybe it was more that I didn’t like the character.

Big Trouble in Little Chicago!

Comic-Con Chicago was a great time. Thursday night was a mellow night not to many people there. I picked up Universe X & both Paradise X trades. Also picked up two sketches from Skottie Young of Hawkeye that Russ got me and a Donald Duck I picked up for Charles.Russ was able to get his picture taken with George Preze.

Friday was a mild day more people and things to do. I personal picked up a awesome sketch of Bomb Queen by Seth Damoose. I also picked up $40 worth of comics from the Avatar booth to catch up on some books. Lori Petty was there and I was able to get my picture taken and Tank Girl DVD signed. The rest of the day was spent walking around with Dylan & Russ. I did come across this print down in artist aisle. During a smoke break someone was walking through and was yelling “’YOU’RE BEING RUDE!” to everyone. He walked up to the cops standing there and said something about all the people standing in the wrong area. The cop came over and said “What you guys can’t read. The smoking area is down there. Move down there.” In return I said “Yes Sir!” He didn’t like this and said “What you have a problem? That’s what I thought.” What a dick cop.

Saturday had a slower start to it, but was much more busier. The Suicide Girls were there and I was able to get my picture taken with the before they moved their booth. Later I picked up the new hard cover book the put out and had them sign it and take another picture with me. Walking down artist aisle was so hard this year it wasn’t funny. Without the big comic publishers there people had more time to walk around and buy art work and other things. While in artist aisle there was a group of people dressed as Green Lanterns and people taking pictures of them. One guy decides to pull out him tripod to take a photo. I waited an appropriate amount of time and walked through because he was holding up the whole aisle. I guess I ended up in the shoot and he didn’t like that. I told him to fuck off and lick my balls in the end.

What’s BillyGoat Been Up Too!

It has been awhile since I last posted a blog, so I thought it was time for an update for the world of BillyGoat. Dan the Manx, Maverick and I have been talking a lot on the forum, so to join us there for open discussions.

I have been also listening to The Dark Tower series on audio book. I’m on currently on the seventh book, half way through. The story of Roland, Jake, Eddie and Susannah is one of the most entertaining novel series I have read, watched on tv or movies wise.

Speaking of tv and movies I have seen Star Trek 2 times now and loved it both times. Something about how well they played with time and reality really impressed me. TV wise I can’t say much right now. The next half of Eureka started. This part of the season seems to focuse on an object from outer space heading towards the town. I also have been watched Warehouse 13 and been liking that. The one thing I will point out and complain about to the new Sci-Fi logo SyFy. Changing the name will not get you more viewers. People that watch sci-fi now are the ones that will continue to watch and people that don’t watch will not start because of a stupid name change.

Now on to video games. First up Prototype, what a fun game. Open world game made by the guys that did the Spider-Man games. Basically take Spidey, Hulk, Wolverine and other mutant powers and put them into one character and you have this game. The story is you don’t remember what happen to you and you most hunt down people and eat them to learn your past. Second up Resident Evil 5, I know old game but I’m still playing the shit out of it. I have beaten all three difficulties and only have one board left to get an S ranking on.

Finally Comics I have been reading. First Green Lantern and Blackest night. I don’t know how Geoff Jones thought this up but man he can write comics. I have desided that I will be getting a black lantern ring tattooed on my finger. Second up Dark Reign. I would like Marvel to let this one roll for about two years and then do something about it.I like having the villains running things. While talking about comics I will also be in Chicago this weekend for the convention.
